I did my BS in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cincinnati (Ohio, U.S.) from 2004-2009, joining Michal Polak’s lab in 2007. I stayed in Mike’s lab for my MS from 2009-2012, using micron-scale laser surgery to investigate the pre- and post-copulatory adaptive function of male genital spines in the fruit fly Drosophila ananassae (top left). I then went on to do my PhD with Göran Arnqvist and David Berger in the Department of Ecology and Genetics at Uppsala University in Sweden from 2012-2017, using quantitative genetics to study the genetic architecture of sexually antagonistic genetic variation and the maintenance of sexual reproduction in the seed beetle Callosobruchus maculatus (top right). After defending my thesis against Jacek Radwan, I got funded by the Swedish Research Council for a 3-year postdoc jointly hosted by Aneil Agrawal in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) at the University of Toronto and Mattias Mannervik in the Department of Molecular Biosciences, the Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) at Stockholm University. I am now an incoming faculty member at the University of East Anglia’s School of Biological Sciences, starting September 1, 2023. In the meantime I will be doing a short postdoc with Michal Polak and Josh Benoit at the University of Cincinnati’s Department of Biological Sciences.
Along the way I met my partner, Ruxandra Molnar, during her postdoc at Uppsala. We enjoy backpacking, rock climbing/bouldering, playing/coaching/reffing roller derby, and chasing after our shared fitness components.
